Step 1: What you Need Before We Start

wizard reading

Before we create your Bazzite Linux USB, here’s everything you’ll want to have ready and what you need to know. Nothing crazy; just the basics to make sure the install goes smoothly.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A USB stick (8GB or bigger)
  • A Windows PC (to create the installer)
  • About 30–60 minutes (extra time just in case something weird happens - this can happen with Windows installs too)

That’s it! No command lines needed here!

Hardware Notes:

Bazzite works on almost anything that runs Windows 10. NVIDIA users should grab the NVIDIA ISO, AMD users have the easiest setup, and Intel/AMD integrated graphics work fine. Most WiFi cards and controllers work out of the box, though rare Realtek cards may need drivers. Very new hardware might need a newer kernel, and very old hardware is fine as long as it can run Windows 10. Laptops work great, but touchscreen gestures vary.

Backup Recommendations:

Even though the installer is safe, always back up important stuff like photos, documents, and any game saves not stored in Steam Cloud. If you plan to wipe Windows, move large files to an external drive. It’s also a good idea to check that your Windows drive isn’t failing - weird clicking noises, slow boots, or random freezing can be warning signs. And if you’re planning to dual-boot, turn off Windows Fast Boot so both systems play nice together.
